Baker Mayfield’s wife seems frustrated with the quarterback’s teammates in Cleveland.
On Sunday night — after the Browns barely beat the Lions, 13-10 — Emily Mayfield posted and deleted a message defending her husband, while appearing to shade the rest of his team.
“No one better say anything bad about Baker Mayfield after this game I don’t think I have seen toughness like this in a while. Maybe the rest our team should take the hint and get tougher.”
Mayfield re-shared the statement from another Instagram user to her story, before she removed it. Her posts from the game, including outfit and WAGs photos, remained in her story feed.
Mayfield’s cryptic post came after her husband declined to speak with media after the win, following a seemingly somber exit from the field.
After fans booed the quarterback throughout the game, Mayfield walked off the field “with his head down and a stern look on his face without celebrating the victory with any of his teammates or acknowledging any of the players on the opposing team,” according to Cleveland.com.
The outlet added that Mayfield did not greet fans or acknowledge them on his way to the locker room. He completed 16 of his 35 attempts for 186 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions against the winless Lions.
Mayfield is playing through multiple injuries while he attempts to keep the Browns afloat in the AFC North. He’s played through a completely torn labrum in his left shoulder since Week 2 — and is dealing with additional knee and heel injuries.
The quarterback was also at the center of Odell Beckham Jr.’s abrupt exit in Cleveland this month, that left fellow receiver Jarvis Landry upset. Landry also said last week he doesn’t know why he isn’t getting more passes thrown his way.
Days before Beckham signed with the Rams, his father shared a video to Instagram that highlighted “every missed opportunity Odell was open” and not targeted by Mayfield.
The quarterback later said he was “surprised” about situation that highlighted his chemistry issues with the receiver.
The Browns visit the Ravens on Sunday, before their bye week.
